Oratio B.V. develops, produces and distributes custom dental devices. For this Oratio sells scan/design technology to her laboratory customers who mail the data to one of Oratio’s Cyrtina Production Centers by internet where the designed device is produced and directly returned.

 

Oratio’s business model is: collaborative computerized dentistry, which means that she is supporting dental laboratories in improving efficiency for the benefit of dentists and patients. She always operates in accordance with the latest quality assurance standards and is actively involved in the development of international standards for improved quality of life of patients. Maximum evidence-based quality is provided to dental professionals and patients though the Orestes® Guarantee-Plan.

Jef van der Zel, CEO Jef van der Zel is responsible for regulatory affairs, clinical studies and product strategy.Jef van der Zel is one of the pioneers of dental CAD/CAM and has been leading developments in virtual articulation, layered CAD/CAM crowns and computer aided implantology in the last 18 years.After gaining a master of science degree in Metallurgy in 1972 at the Technical University Delft, he worked for three years on metallurgical research for Anglo American in Zambia, Central Africa and two years at the Technical University Delft. Before joining Oratio B.V. Jef was one of the founders and for 25 years the technical director of Elephant Dental B.V. In 1989 he obtained his PhD at the University of Amsterdam. He wrote 63 patents on CICERO CAD/CAM, Carrara- and Sakura-systems and CYRTINA CAD/CAM. In 2003 Jef was appointed part-time professor at the first Computerized Dentistry chair at the University of Amsterdam.

 

Siebe van der Zel, COO  Siebe van der Zel is responsible for the development of custom dental device production, customer service, software and process validation and logistics.Siebe van der Zel obtained a master of science degree in Civil Engineering from Technical University Delft in 1998 and worked for five years as projectleader for the European Union on drinkwater projects in Guatemala (Central-America). He joined Oratio B.V. in 2003 to lead the development of material processing in the CYRTINA project. His main focus is on quality assurance, customer services, production and logistics.

 

Simon Vlaar, manager System Development  Simon Vlaar is responsible for system development and software interfacing with vendor equipment and scanner custom dental device validation. Simon gained his degree in Electronics and Software Engineering from the Technical Highschool in Alkmaar, The Netherlands in 1990. From 1990 till 2001 he worked on the project for computer integrated ceramic reconstruction (CICERO) at CICERO Dental Systems B.V., Hoorn, The Netherlands. His focus was on areas of integration of software and hardware and the validation of software-hardware systems such as scanners and milling machines.His research has been focussed on the development and validation of new technologies such as laser triagulation scanning of dental models, computertomographic imaging and software engineering.

 

Wiljo de Ruiter, manager Software Development Wiljo de Ruiter is responsable for software development, software architecture, code generation, testing and version release.Wiljo gained his degree in Electronics and Software Engineering from the Technical Highschool in Alkmaar, The Netherlands in 1990. From 1990 till 2001 he worked on the project for computer integrated ceramic reconstruction (CICERO) at CICERO Dental Systems B.V., Hoorn, The Netherlands. From 2001 until 2002 he worked on Cercon projects and from 2003 until present he joined Oratio B.V. to work on the CYRTINA project. His research areas are converting point clouds of a scan made from a gypsum model to virtually design dental restorations with optimized static and dynamic occlusion in contact with neighbouring and antagonistic elements, and specific tool path generation to control a milling machine to produce the dental restorations.

 

Nello Paloni, export manager Nello Paloni is export manager for South Europe at Oratio, which means that works with Italy, Spain and Portugal at the moment. Nello gained his degree in Dental Technician from the Technical Highschool in Rome, Italy in 1987. From 1993 till 2006 is owner of the M.P. dental laboratory, and has hence developed an entrepreneurial career by orientating his profession towards the manufacturing of prostheses on implants, integral aesthetics and CAD-CAM, working with clients in Italy, U.K. Irland, Netherlands and U.S. In 2002, Councilor for the Association of Owners of Dental  Laboratories in Italy ,head of Communication for A.N.T.L.O in Lazio, since January 2003, assistant to Head of Public Relations for A.N.T.L.O. for Lazio since November 2003. He Speaks Italian,English, Spanish and Dutch.Has published various articles on techniques and aesthetics in field-related magazines.He is actually responsible for training at Oratio.

 

 
History

       

The Oratio team has been committed to dental CAD/CAM research for over 16 years. In 1997 the Oratio-teammembers won first prize in the national competition Software Technology Rating among 47 software companies on CICERO (Computer Integrated CEramic Reconstruction), a the dental CAD/CAM project for layered crowns. In 2002, a project was launched for the development of an innovative computer aided diagnosis and design of implant abutments and dental CAD/CAM. The project was supported by a grant of 1.2 million euro from the ministry of economic affairs in the program Information Technology of SenterNovem under number TSIT2020.As this project turned out highly successful a public limited company, Oratio B.V., was founded that owned the patents that were filed. Within a very short time, Oratio managed, by combining her core competence in material and software technology, to become the technology leader in her field over reputable competitors in the market. The recipe for success is the continuous know-how exchange with customers under her business model of collaborative computerized dentistry and the permanent improvement of scan and design software and manufacturing technologies.

  • By putting the dental laboratory in the center, by providing them with custom dental devices, produced by an efficient production facility, Oratio wants to increase their service level to the benefit of dentists and patients. Dental clinics around the globe should all have easy access to Oratio’s applications in the area of conservative and prosthetic dentistry and surgical navigation in implantology by centralized production of custom dental restorations and stereolithographic templates, and so helping to enhance the quality of live of their patients.To make sure that evidence-based dentistry remains at the basis of the activities, Oratio cooperates with universities and research institutions worldwide, and organizes seminars where researchers can meet.
